Apartment building in the Art Deco style designed in 1931 by Florent Vaes for the Entreprise de Maçonnerie, Béton Armé et Menuiserie (E.M.B.A.M.), a subsidiary of the general contractor Van Riel & Van den Bergh. Construction was still under way in 1932, and the execution departed from the design: facing largely in brick instead of the required white stone, the stone plinth extended to the second storey, and the corner reduced to a concave canted bay in stone crowned by a blind attic. On the corner of Elisabethlaan and Koninklijkelaan, the building, with cellars throughout and a reinforced-concrete structure, has eight storeys and twelve bays and rises above a district of three-storey town houses. Above the two-storey white-stone plinth, emphasised by continuous balconies with wrought-iron balustrades, the brick façades emphasise verticality through the brick bond, the three-sided bay windows, alternately rectangular and trapezoidal, and the concave corner, while the eighth storey in stone forms a horizontal limit. Apart from a few wrought-iron entrance doors, all the joinery has been renewed, and the ground floor has been altered, notably in 1948-1949 to house garages. It is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
