Art Deco apartment building on the corner of Britselei and Mertens en Torfsstraat, designed in 1934 by the architects Florent Vaes and Georges Maes for the physician M. Loë; it combined the doctor's home and surgery, eight flats and a caretaker's lodge. With a reinforced-concrete frame and faced entirely in natural stone on a bluestone plinth, the six-storey façade owes its streamlined character to the rounded corner and a highly sculptural treatment, in which cavetto-grooved bands, curved courses and the projecting windows typical of Vaes give rhythm to the elevation; small ogee motifs are the only ornament. The Daelemans lift installed in 1934 keeps its wooden car and original plates. It is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
