Van Riel et Van den Bergh

The general building contractors Van Riel & Van den Bergh, based in Lamorinièrestraat in Antwerp, were active from 1925. The firm succeeded the partnership of J. Van Riel and Ed. Ceurvorst, which itself grew out of the firm Van Riel, Peeters & Cie, founded in 1905. Specialising in reinforced-concrete construction, it worked for both public and private clients. Its buildings include the apartment block at Jan Van Rijswijcklaan 284-290 (1928), the office building of the Compagnie Nationale d'Éclairage (1929), the social housing complex in Twee Netenstraat (1932), the Residentie Van Rijswijck (1932) and the Carlier store on Meirbrug (1936). Its subsidiary E.M.B.A.M., at the same address, was the client for Home Peter Benoit and Home Jan Blockx and for the Résidence du Centenaire.
