Art Deco office building erected for the Compagnie Nationale d'Éclairage, an Antwerp gas company founded in 1906 as "Le Gaz Riche", to a 1929 design by architect Jan Jacobs; the firm Van Riel & Van den Bergh was the contractor. On a reinforced-concrete frame, the four-storey, four-bay façade, faced with white natural stone on a base of rough grey granite, follows a regular, almost undecorated composition, broken only by the off-centre entrance under a triangular Art Deco pediment. The pilasters with their stepped triangular profile, the three-sided bow windows and the fluted cornice give it its streamlined dynamism; the steel window frames, the iron entrance door and the three garage doors are preserved, as are the marble-clad vestibule and stairwell. The building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
