Semi-detached Art Deco apartment building on the corner of Koninklijkelaan and Hilda Ramstraat in Berchem, designed and built on his own account by the architect Louis Van Rijmenant, who submitted the permit application on 18 August 1925 and lived there until 1929–1930. The programme comprised nine apartments of three types, a caretaker's flat, a garage and maids' rooms; it is the earliest known of a series of Art Deco apartment buildings by the architect dating from 1925 to 1935. Five storeys and a mezzanine high under a flat roof, it combines red brick with white stone and imitation stone; its Art Deco character lies, according to the inventory, in a simple and strict design, the vertical rhythm of giant pilasters, the cross-shaped geometric ornaments on the parapets and the contrast of stone and brick. The cladding of the top storey in 2005 altered this vertical dynamic; the wooden entrance doors with wrought iron and the historic oak lift by the firm Etienne Thiery survive. The building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
