Pair of Art Deco apartment buildings built for Séverin P. Amelinckx, an importer and wholesaler of butter and eggs, and his son François E. Amelinckx, a fledgling developer, to designs by the architect Benoit J. Dupont of 1933 and 1934; the application for no. 39 was filed in June 1933, that for no. 45 in January 1934, then refiled in simplified form in December 1934. The two buildings, of three bays and eight storeys under a flat roof, form perfectly symmetrical mirror-image counterparts that were to flank a third building never built; the inventory counts this twin complex among Dupont's earliest examples. The facing, probably of yellow Belvédère brick with "Dudok" joints (recessed bed joints and flush head joints), is generously combined with white stone, the ground floor being clad in bluestone; the emphasis lies on the outer bay, treated as a rising rectangular bay window marked by a central pilaster, with a chamfered corner pier decorated with flowers at top and bottom, and closed rounded balconies with tubular railings. Except for the garage door, the joinery has been renewed and the wrought iron of the transoms and grilles partly survives; no. 39 keeps its four-person electric lift built in 1933 by Etienne Thièry, with its original wooden cage and brass control panel. The buildings are recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
