Art Deco warehouse built for the glass merchants Verreries J.B. Gaasch to a 1923 design by architects Vincent Cols and Jules De Roeck, and constructed in 1924 by the Berchem contractor P. Lecluyse & Zonen, licensees of the Hennebique reinforced-concrete system; planned with three storeys, it received a fourth during construction. The four-bay façade, in red brick on a reinforced-concrete frame with sparing use of bluestone for the base, is articulated by a colossal order of recessed panels narrowing towards the top and two-sided pilaster strips. Its early Art Deco character derives from the sculptural relief and expressive treatment of the brickwork, such as the parapets of brick-on-edge courses and the frieze of projecting headers in a chequerboard pattern, and from the concrete lintel bearing the inscription "VERRERIES J.B.GAASCH" in relief. Converted into lofts in 2003-2004, the warehouse is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
