Pair of apartment houses in a sober Art Deco style, built for August Broeckx en C° to a 1927 design by the architect François Dens and constructed by the contractor P. Lecluyse & Zonen. The two linked buildings outwardly follow the town-villa type imposed by the building regulations for this part of the Jan Van Rijswijcklaan, but their plan divides each into three flats from the outset. In brick and natural stone, they have four storeys, the top two forming on the street side a steeply pitched slate pseudo-mansard; the façade of six unequal bays is fully symmetrical, marked in the centre by two paired round-arched entrances on colonnettes and flanked by projecting sections with a curved crowning, accentuated by three-sided bay windows and topped by a parabolic-arched dormer. The geometric Art Deco pattern of the doors, breastworks and the largely preserved front-garden railing is typical; the wooden window frames survive in full only at no. 230. The houses are recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
