Antwerp — from Zurenborg to Plantin en Moretuslei

The route starts at the Seidel house, one of Léon Stynen's very first works (1928), on the Thaliastraat. In Zurenborg, protected as an urban site since 1980, the Pretoriastraat, Uitbreidingstraat, Velodroomstraat and Generaal Van Merlenstraat bring together the rental houses of the Berchemsche Bouwhandel (1927), two Art Deco apartment buildings by Robert Soebert, from 1924 and 1925, and the Klecker house by the same architect (1928), the Petré house with shop (1924) and the house Alfons Van Braekel designed for himself in 1927. Via the Cuperusstraat and a rental house of 1932, the route reaches the Van den Nestlei, where Edward Van Not built an apartment building on his own account in 1927, and then Plantin en Moretuslei, with the apartment buildings by Paul and Gustave Wauters (1928) and Alphonse Pauwels (1931). Oriels, bow windows, white stone, bluestone or red brick and wrought iron recur from one façade to the next.
