Art Deco villa designed in 1935-1936 by the architect Jef Huygh for Alfons Sauter, a wholesaler in butter and eggs and brother of the sculptor Rik Sauter, to whom the small statue of the Virgin on the front façade is attributed. Detached and set across the width of its plot, the red-brick villa on a high rubble-stone base, with white stone for quoins, consoles and balustrades, is composed of sculptural volumes under a tall slate roof, with a central projection with a broad gable and a massive corner rotunda. It features the “Jefkes”, squat columns typical of Huygh supporting the roofs of the porticoes, and conical chimneys with copper caps; the spiral wrought ironwork, the joinery and the leaded glass survive. Huygh also designed the interior and the garden; the villa is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
