Ghent
Ghent — from Paul de Smet de Naeyerplein to Burggravenlaan, through the Miljoenenkwartier
In Ghent, this route brings together twelve houses from 1924 to 1930. It starts on Paul de Smet de Naeyerplein, with Oscar Vandenhoeck’s Villa Overfeldt (1927), one of the first buildings of the Miljoenenkwartier, for which he also designed the stained glass and furniture, and Marin Braeckman’s Villa G. Naeyaert (1930). It then passes Geo Henderick’s Villa Berteloot (1929), in decorative brickwork close to the Amsterdam School, P. Vandevelde’s house (1929) with a continuous oriel, G. De Groote’s E. Schelfhout house (1930), whose interior retains 1930s wall paintings, and Jules Lippens’s R. Van Damme house (1928). Via a house by Oscar Vandenhoeck on Krijgslaan (1926), it reaches Burggravenlaan: G. W. Hombrecht’s corner house (1924), which its corner dome links, according to the inventory record, to so-called “Beaux-Arts” architecture, then two houses by Jules Lippens (1925 and 1927) and two by Oscar Vandenhoeck (1925). Five of these houses are protected monuments.
