Joseph Diongre

Joseph Diongre, born in Brussels on 1 August 1878 and died in Uccle on 3 March 1963, trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, in the studios of Ernest Acker, Henri Van Rysselberghe, Combaz and Saintenoy, and travelled to the Netherlands in 1902. In 1933 he won the competition for the Radio House on Place Flagey in Ixelles, built from 1935 to 1938 for the National Broadcasting Institute. The building housed Belgian public broadcasting until 1974 and is now the Flagey cultural centre. He also built the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church in Molenbeek (1930-1932), in reinforced concrete with parabolic arches, protected since 1984.
