Izegem
Izegem — from Burgemeester Vandenbogaerdelaan to Emelgem
In Izegem, this route brings together twelve Art Deco buildings from 1925 to 1939, three of them built for shoe manufacturers. It starts at two houses by W. Geldolf (1936), then follows Pieter Baesstraat, with a house by Gentiel Van Eeckhoutte (1935), Charles Laloo’s concrete-framed double house (1939) and E. Allewaert’s semi-detached houses (1932). It then passes the 1928 villa attributed to P. Gits for A. Clement, the symmetrical house by the Antwerp architect H. Du Bois for U. Wybo (1934), J. Degezelle’s Villa Ameye (1935) and the former brewer’s house designed by A. Spriet (1930), in white glazed brick, a protected monument since 2001. Next come the director’s house of the brush factory on Camiel Ameyestraat (1937), another house by Spriet (1937) and the Villa Marie-José (1928), which Charles Laloo built for himself, before, in Emelgem, the two-family house of the Vanacker flax retters (1925), which retains its flax loft.
