Villa Art déco, Dweersstraat 32 — Izegem

Sober Art Deco villa of 1928, attributed with a question mark to P. Gits, built for the shoe manufacturer A. Clement in the middle of a wooded garden, closed off from the street by a low brick wall, with an octagonal wooden garden pavilion to the west. A small wrought-iron gate leads, by steps and a blue stone landing with a balustrade crowned by vases, to a recessed porch with stylised columns and a wrought-iron door. The two-storey brick building is emphasised by a cemented frieze beneath an overhanging wooden cornice; the wide door bay is framed by lesenes with recessed panels, with stylised rose motifs at the level of the dormer, and the rectangular eared windows carry geometric motifs. Inside, the hall keeps its cement-tile floor and its wooden staircase in a geometric Art Deco style with a wrought-iron balustrade, with plastered ceilings with a palmette frieze and simple marble fireplaces. The villa is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
