Pair of Art Deco apartment houses designed one after the other in 1922 by the architect Alfons Van Braekel and built simultaneously for E. de Nève and L. Jensen; though they look like town houses, each combined a home for the owner with a rental flat. An early work by the architect, the project appears influenced by the brick expressionism of the Amsterdam School: the three-storey façades with cornice form a continuous mirror-image screen in brick of varied tones, enlivened by drip mouldings, brick-on-edge courses and stepped consoles. A bow window and a rectangular bay window mark the first floor; the round-arched doors, with keystones bearing a cockerel and a pelican, keep their joinery and ironwork. The pair is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
