Art Deco town house designed in 1924 by the architect Léon Stynen, one of his very first works, for Alphonse Derboven, director of the Vander Elst Frères tobacco factory; the building application was filed in 1925. The five-bay, four-storey façade, faced with natural stone and strongly vertical in articulation, is dominated by a three-bay central projection with a bow window over the first two floors. Hit by a V1 or V2 bomb in March 1945, it was restored by Stynen himself in simplified form, without its Art Deco ornaments; the remarkable wrought ironwork of the garage door and front door, with fountain and spiral motifs, survives. The house is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
