Maison de médecin Bortels — Anvers

Doctor's house with surgery in a sober Art Deco style, built for the physician Constant Bortels to a 1935 design by the architect Pierre Backer Overbeek, in Ekeren. The dark brick façades on a blue stone plinth are enlivened by the characteristic rounded corner, carried through the elevation, the balustrade of the semicircular balcony and the roof. The plan is organised around a central stairwell with a skylight, with an entrance hall shared by the private rooms and the surgery (waiting room, dispensary and consulting room). The house is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
