Maison Art déco, Vrijheid 142 — Hoogstraten

Art Deco house of two bays and three storeys under a flat roof, of 1935, to designs by K. Van Looy. Its cornice façade in decorative brickwork, on a high blue stone plinth, incorporates structural and decorative elements in concrete or imitation stone. The upper part is marked by a rounded oriel and rounded balconies with tubular railings, supplemented by sculptures (a fruit basket, stylised floral motifs). The rectangular openings have renewed joinery, but an oculus with coloured leaded glass survives. The date is given by the authorisation of the Ministry of Public Works of 28 October 1935. The house is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
