Art Deco mansion built for the industrialist Jan Van den Heuvel, founder of the Ciments J. Van den Heuvel works at Hemiksem, to a 1935 design by the architect Ernest Nagels. Wide and deep, the terraced house has three storeys under a pseudo-mansard; its symmetrical cornice façade combines a facing of white Euville stone on the first two storeys with yellow brick in a decorative bond on the top storey and the blind attic, completed by yellow stained glass, copper gutters and slates. The central axis is marked by the entrance under a short canopy; the three-sided bay window and the former service entrance are topped by a carved tympanum of dolphins in a shell, and the cornice is pierced by a frieze of triangular ventilation holes. The double door of wrought iron and gilt bronze, with a pattern of flower bouquets, and the steel window frames with their glazing survive, as does the large stair hall in white and black veined marble; recently converted into offices, the building now connects with the neighbouring no. 2. It is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
