Oudenaarde
Oudenaarde and surroundings — from Petegem-aan-de-Schelde to Sint-Maria-Latem
From Oudenaarde to its surroundings, this route brings together eleven Art Deco buildings from 1925 to 1944. In Petegem-aan-de-Schelde, it starts at a double house by Remi Delarue, an architect from Anzegem (1938), and the house R. Vandevelde built in 1944 for G. Geeraert, founder of Ridobel. In Oudenaarde, it passes a house by Aimé De Wulf (1928) with stepped white cement surrounds, the façade and shopfront Gilbert Decordier gave in 1930 to a shop-house on Nederstraat, a façade remodelled in 1936 and the corner house by Decordier (1937), then the shop and warehouse of Th. Decordier, a building-materials merchant (1925), the house built by the plasterer R. Messiaen (1929), with friezes of small pebbles, and, in Edelare, a façade transformed in 1925 whose attic bears the inscription “schoenen”. After the semi-detached villa of 1938 on Prins Leopoldstraat, by the Frenchman J. Philippe, of Saint-Omer, it ends in Sint-Maria-Latem (Zwalm) at the Villa Bertha (1935), designed by the engineer E. De Nollin.
