Leuven — from the centre to the ring boulevards, Art Deco from 1922 to 1932

This walk links the centre of Leuven to its ring boulevards. It starts at E. Mispelter’s bel-étage houses on Wandelingstraat (1929) and L. Dierickx’s house on Dirk Boutslaan (1931), with its triangular oriel topped by a balcony. On Bondgenotenlaan come Paul Stevens’s De Moor house (1926), within the protected townscape, and René Notéris’s Vander Elst mansion (1922), a protected monument; on Tiensevest, Raymond Poppe’s former provincial teacher-training school for girls (1931), a design chosen through a competition, bears two female statues above its entrance. On Maria-Theresiastraat, A. Devos’s façade (1929) combines brick bonds with patterns of white and black tiles. Further south, E. Vanderheyden’s double house (1928), Charles De Wys’s mirror-image houses (1924) and Marcel Claes’s Delmot house (1932) end the walk.
