Art Deco apartment building designed in 1935 by the architect Gustave Fierens for Arthur Warmenbol, a cheese merchant, who housed his business and his private home in it. The programme originally comprised two shops, one with an office and warehouses at the rear, and twenty flats of four types. According to the inventory, Fierens' architecture evolved in the 1920s and 1930s from a sober Art Deco towards a moderate modernism. The four-bay main block has six storeys under a flat roof; the cornice façade, in yellow brick with recessed joints, with white stone for the bay windows, surrounds and frieze and bluestone for the ground floor, is symmetrical, marked in the outer bays by three-sided bay windows rising the full height and, in the centre, by broad windows with quarter-round surrounds and garland corbels. A frieze with fluted sections and a wooden cornice on brackets finish the façade; the wrought-iron carriage gate and private door, by the J. Gowie workshop of Berchem, survive, and the building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
