Mansion in a sober Art Deco style built for Louis Van Stappen to a 1931 design by the architect Edouard De Winter, whose name appears in an inscription; this semi-detached town villa forms a pair of linked villas with the Mertens house, designed in 1928 by the engineer-architect Emile Goethals. Of two storeys, in brick and natural stone on a bluestone plinth, it had, by analogy with the neighbouring house, to be given a slate mansard roof with dormers of an 18th-century model; a garage included in the original plans adjoins the lower rear wing. The façade of the main block, of three unequal bays articulated by pilasters and with a rounded, higher up chamfered, corner, owes its Art Deco character mainly to the ironwork and the decoration of the breastworks, with grooved sills and spiral tendril ornaments, completed by a tendril frieze and small rosette corbels; the inventory describes this style as "typically ornamental". The wooden joinery with small glazing bars, the wrought-iron balcony railing and the front-garden railing survive. The house is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
