Ernest Snoeck

Ernest Snoeck, born Theophiel Henri Ernest Snoeck in Lovendegem on 3 May 1900, was an architect based in Sint-Amandsberg, on the edge of Ghent, at Warnefordstraat 44 in 1935 and 1941; the sources consulted do not give his date of death. He worked in and around Ghent on a wide range of commissions: town houses, shops, villas, workers' houses, extensions and alterations. His town houses are mostly in a restrained Art Deco or a moderate modernism, while his villas draw on English country houses; he favoured rounded oriels, stained glass in the upper parts of windows or in the stairwell and, in his later work, yellow glazed bricks. Several of his façades bear his signature, on a stone or a glazed tile. The corpus includes seven of his houses: Victor Braeckmanlaan 44 and Wolterslaan 127 (1932), Wolterslaan 111-113 (1935), Sportstraat 396 and 398 (1937), with streamline touches, and Wolterslaan 119 and 121 (1939).
