Brabant flamand
Flemish Brabant — from Leuven to Diest and Tienen
This route runs from Leuven to the north and east of the province, between 1927 and 1936. In Kessel-Lo, Petrus De Rijck’s Terloo villa (1935) bears its name written in dark brick; in Wijgmaal, two mirror-image houses recorded in the land register in 1935 open a row built by the Remy starch works for its employees. In Wespelaar (Haacht), two semi-detached Art Deco houses of 1935 are among the oldest on Elisabeth Willemslaan; in Rotselaar, the brewhouse of the Mena brewery (1932-1933), by Édouard Mispelter, a concrete frame with Art Deco elements, is a listed monument. After the chapel of Saint Teresa in Tremelo (1928), the route reaches Aarschot, where Victor Van Roey’s former J. Nagels bank (1927), eclectic in style and richly decorated with Art Deco elements, is listed, then the teacher’s house in Scherpenheuvel-Zichem (1930) and, in Diest, the protected Art Deco façade of 1932 on Schaffensestraat. It ends in Tienen at Charles Rimanque’s De Zwaan café (1936).
