Pair of mirror-image houses, registered in the cadastre in 1935 and characterised according to the inventory by a pared-down Art Deco design; they begin the row of town houses (nos. 29-41) built in this part of Acht-Meistraat by the Remy starch factory of Wijgmaal to house its white-collar staff. This more middle-class type of mirrored semi-detached house was often used by the Remy factories in Wijgmaal for their staff. Built in red brick on a bluestone plinth, the symmetrical composition of two bays and two storeys per house is covered by a continuous half-hipped roof of black slate (renewed at no. 31); each house has a recessed entrance bay and a main bay with a full-height trapezoidal bay window. Decorative vertical brickwork, quoins, and continuous bluestone sills and string courses linking the two façades complete the whole; the white-painted timber joinery, with many sash windows, and the original timber cornice survive, except for the front door of no. 31. The houses are recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
