Corner house between the Italiëlei and the Goudbloemstraat, the result of the thorough remodelling in 1927-1928 of an 1879 neoclassical house by the Brussels architect Fernand Badoux for the shipowner Arthur Vollen; it is signed "BADOUX F. ARCHITECTE 1928 BRUXELLES". The successive applications of 1927 and 1928 replaced the imitation-stone facing first planned with brick and a more modern arrangement: the house has three storeys under a slate mansard roof, with cornice façades in a simple Art Deco style in yellow Belvédère brick on a bluestone plinth. The ground floor, treated as a base and edged by a broad band of coarse granito, has wide rectangular openings; on the first floor, the Goudbloemstraat façade has a three-sided bay window topped by a balcony and the Italiëlei façade a bay window crowned by a balcony whose parapet is of brick, unlike the design drawing, and a ground-floor door has an Art Deco grille. The interior layout and finishes of 1928 survive in full, in a sober Art Deco spirit: parquet floors, marble fireplaces and floors, stucco ceilings, kitchen and toilet tiling, bathroom fittings and radiator casings. The house is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
