Art Deco house with a built-in garage, built in 1933 for the merchant Adolf Staelens to designs by the Waregem architect Gentiel Van Eeckhoutte (1906-1963). A double-fronted house of brown brick under a half-mansard saddle roof of black-grey machine-made tiles, it combines orange brick on the façade with decorative concrete for the plinth and the window and door surrounds. The entrance is emphasised by a bay window topped by a balcony and a dormer; the bay window, set between extended pilaster strips with ball finials, the balcony railing and the windows with leaded glass and coloured glass panels are the Art Deco elements. The joinery partly survives, including the carriage door, the cornice, the front door with its flanking windows and the dormer; the first-floor windows were renewed, repeating the former divisions and reusing the leaded glass. According to the inventory, the interior reportedly retains tiled floors in a colourful cubist pattern, wooden doors with original handles, colourful glass in a triangular motif and a salon arch ending in a round glazed form. The house is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
