Pair of nearly identical Art Deco houses, built in 1930 for the industrialist brothers Norbert Desmet-Vandekerckhove (no. 113) and Armand Desmet-Allaert (no. 111); according to S. Coorevits, cited in the inventory, the architect may have come from the Ghent area, where Mrs Vandekerckhove also came from. The houses are separated by a shared gateway leading to a double garage at the rear. Built of brick under compound saddle roofs of machine-made tiles, they combine yellow brick with white-painted render; the Art Deco vocabulary shows in the cut-away corner corbels, the brickwork, the angular windows and the joinery with stylised, partly coloured leaded glass, along with built-in planters. According to the inventory, no. 113 reportedly retains part of its Art Deco fittings: a toilet wall clad in light-blue glazed tiles, a hall wall decorated with small triangular lamps and some of the furniture, including a chimney wall, a stove and several cupboards. The houses are recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
