Art Deco apartment building on the boundary between Antwerp and Borgerhout, designed in 1931 by the architect Victor Gorlé (façade inscription) for Prosper Schalckens, whose mechanical engineering firm had its showroom and offices on the ground floor; Schalckens lived in a flat on the first floor, and the building held nine further flats. The symmetrical five-bay, six-storey façade, in mostly white natural stone with yellow Belvédère-type brick, rises above the shopfront in a giant order: three-sided bay windows in the central projection, semicircular bow windows in the side bays and a continuous wrought-iron balcony on the attic storey. The Daelemans lift installed around 1930 in an open shaft keeps its wooden car and original buttons. It is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
