Art Deco commercial building, built for the firm Davidis & Cie to a 1934 design by the architect Joseph Selis; the works were carried out by the contractor Spiessens-Van Nereaux of Deurne. Intended as the shop and offices of Electrolux, the project involved the thorough conversion of a neoclassical townhouse built for the notary G. Victor Meert, whose layout and façade were completely renewed. According to the inventory, the design is representative of Selis' moderately progressive late-interwar work, halfway between a "zakelijk" modernism and a streamlined Art Deco. The rendered, now painted cornice façade of three bays and four storeys under a flat roof uses white stone for the lintels, sills, cornice, projecting bands and corner blocks; sober and strongly horizontal, it owes its streamlined character to the parallel rounded bands and corner blocks that spring from the façade plane above the entrance and on either side of the windows. The fully glazed shopfront has a canted side entrance, and the steel joinery of the shopfront and windows survives except on the top storey; the building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
