Corner ensemble of six town houses and a café, designed in 1930 in the Art Deco style; the four building applications were all submitted by Michel Casaert, a contractor by profession, who worked with several draughtsmen, including A. Bekaert for no. 40 Bouwmeestersstraat, and who also built the ensemble at Aannemersstraat 155-161. The houses, of three storeys under tiled pitched roofs, have cornice façades on a cemented plinth imitating rubble stone, in red brick enlivened by decorative brickwork and lesenes and topped by a brick frieze that differs from house to house. The wooden cornice on modillions swings rhythmically in and out above the oriels, three-sided, two-sided or bow-fronted, which occupy the two upper floors; it survives only at no. 54 Klinkkouterstraat and in Bouwmeestersstraat. All the openings are rectangular, except the polygonal ones of no. 54, and the joinery has been renewed. The corner building, divided by three full-height lesenes, houses the café on the ground floor, with its wide windows and its door in the chamfered corner. The ensemble is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
