Transformer station X of 1934, with an Art Deco façade, one of a series of brick electricity substations built in the late 1920s and the 1930s for the Société d'Électricité de l'Escaut, each with its own façade design. The plans are signed by the company's chief engineer, whose name is illegible, but it is not certain that he was also the designer. Of three bays and two storeys, on a reinforced-concrete frame, the substation forms a whole with houses nos 1, 2 and 4 on Kroonplein, in an Art Deco with simple red and brown brick ornament. The slightly recessed central entrance bay carries two stepped Art Deco motifs and the inscription "POST X"; the side bays of brown brick are pierced by hexagonal windows, and a low mitre-shaped gable of red brick crowns the whole. The original metal window frames survive, with renewed glazing. The substation is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
