Two adjoining Art Deco houses in Merksem: an apartment building of 1932 (no. 27), designed and commissioned by the contractor-bricklayer Frans Van den Bogaert, and a town house of 1933 (no. 29) whose designer is unknown. Their red-brick facades contrast with the white natural stone or imitation stone of the first-floor oriels. At no. 27 the three-sided oriel rests on white stone brackets and its parapets carry panels with geometric Art Deco ornament; at no. 29 the oriel is supported by a flower-decorated bracket and the entrance bay is adorned with a medallion bearing a flower basket. The wooden front doors, with an Art Deco metal grille (no. 27) or leaded glass (no. 29), are intact.
