In 1927 the master stonemason Henri Van Waes settled in Deurne with a new home and workshop; the permit file does not give the designer's name. The front building, in the Art Deco style, has two bays and three storeys under a flat roof: a red-brick cornice facade on a high bluestone plinth, accented in white stone, with the inscription "H. VAN WAES STEENHOUWERIJ" and the stonemason's attributes above the wide carriage gate. Its refined natural-stone decoration makes it a showcase for the business. The building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
