Former pharmacy of Henry Tuypens, on the corner of Houtbriel and Sacramentstraat, built to plans by the architect Marc Neerman (Ghent) dated 19 March 1929; the Tuypens family, pharmacists from father to son, had their main depot and the laboratory for the 'Poeders Wit Kruis' here. The inventory describes this corner building 'in art deco', of three and four storeys under flat roofs, as expressionist brick architecture closely related to the Amsterdam School, dominated by cubic and geometric forms and the interplay of box-shaped volumes, with ornament limited to a few sober accents. The two façades, separated at the corner by a vertical sandstone element, differ in their levels and windows: four storeys with tall, rather narrow windows on Sacramentstraat, three on Houtbriel, almost entirely taken up by a projecting bay window. The ground floor has very wide shop windows framed in black veined marble, and corbelled and angled brick courses and wavy and straight bonds enliven the crowning. The pharmacy interior has entirely disappeared, while the structure of the upper floors probably survives. The building has been listed as a monument since 2012.
