Hairdresser's shop with living quarters in the Art Deco style, on the corner of Frederik de Merodeplein and Kardinaal Mercierlei in Berchem, built for the barber Gerard Jozef Van Dongen to a late-1927 design by the Roeselare-based architect Henri De Roeck. The cornice façade in red brick with rowlock courses, painted white stone and bluestone, akin in expression to the Amsterdam School, emphasises the corner bay, continued in a gabled dormer with a polygonal oculus. The ground floor housed a men's and a women's salon; the wooden joinery of the shopfront, including the doors, and of the windows survives. The building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
