Pair of Art Deco houses of flats influenced by the Amsterdam School, designed in 1926 by and for the architect A. De Bondt, who signed the plinth of no. 42. The four-storey elevations, in red brick enhanced with rendered sections and bluestone, are enlivened by pointed or polygonal projections and marked at the corners by crossed brickwork. At no. 42, a canted projection carries an oriel and barely modelled bas-reliefs depicting children, a cockerel and a hen. At no. 44, on the corner of Rue Nicolas Defrêcheux, the boulevard façade is treated as an asymmetrical trapezoidal oriel, and broad canted-corner shop windows originally lit a shop. The joinery has been replaced and the front-garden railings removed; the pair is recorded in the inventory.
