In 1938 the bicycle manufacturer Maurice Verbiest-Verstraete commissioned the architect Alexander Meuleman to design a new dwelling house next to the "Pola Rijwielen" bicycle factory. The house was completed in 1939 by the contractor Edouard Heene. Its Art Deco façade, in the so-called "boat style", is notable for its streamlined, rounded forms, the tubular balcony railings that recall a ship's rails, the metal windows and the porthole windows in the interior doors. The upper floors are of yellow brick, with oriels and terraces in white granito. The house has been protected as a monument since 2004.
