Art Deco apartment building designed in 1930 by the architect Jan De Vroey for the judge and musicologist Jean Auguste Stellfeld and the National Bank regent Clément Swolfs. It belongs to the late work of the architect, who in the interwar years moved between the Beaux-Arts style and a conservative Art Deco, according to the inventory. The corner building with a canted corner, of three by seven bays, has six storeys under a flat roof, two shops on the ground floor and ten flats served by a central hall with a Daelemans lift. On a reinforced-concrete frame, the red-brick façades contrast with the white stone of the bay windows and surrounds; the sequence of bow windows, oriels and pilasters, rising over four storeys from stepped bases and topped on the fifth floor by wrought-iron Art Deco balconies, gives the elevation its dynamism, and the corner is accentuated by a polygonal bay and a trapezoidal pediment. The flat shopfront is pierced by a deep porch with a wrought-iron Art Deco fanlight; the building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
