On the corner of Rue des Carmes and Rue des Croisiers, this large apartment building with a shop on the ground floor was erected in 1934 by the architect Georges Nihoul and contributes to the Art Deco unity of the Carmes district. Its four-storey volume, with mainly horizontal openings and geometric projections but smooth elevations, reveals the influence of both the Amsterdam School and modernism. The intact ground floor has kept its original function as a pharmacy: its windows, with slender metal frames, carry stained glass illustrating pharmaceutical symbols.
