Immeuble à appartements Art déco, Letterkundestraat 15 — Anvers

This Art Deco apartment building in Wilrijk, with a warehouse at the rear, was built for the merchant Gustaaf Claessens-Van Est to plans of March 1932; the builder's signature is illegible and the work was probably carried out by the contractor Aloïs Janssen of Borgerhout. The four-storey façade, in red-brown brick on a bluestone base, plays with projecting and recessed volumes in a symmetrical arrangement. The geometric forms (triangle, trapezium, rectangle, scroll) of the volumes, openings and decorative details are typical of Art Deco.
