A group of more than thirty Art Deco-inspired social housing blocks, built between 1928 and 1935 by the architect Joseph Caluwaers for the Société anonyme des habitations à bon marché de la Commune d’Ixelles, to plans drawn up as early as 1925. The red-brick elevations, set off with bluestone, notably with rusticated bossage, and roughcast, rise to between three and five storeys, with entrance bays marked by oriels or loggias and corners treated as turrets lighting the stairwells. Brick decoration, stepped surrounds, chequerboards and arcaded friezes, and massive masonry dormers complete an ensemble of austere appearance.
