Pavilion-style orphanage designed in 1938-1939 on the highest point of Marcinelle, on the initiative of the Intercommunale d'Œuvres Sociales (IOS) of the Charleroi region. The commission went to Marcel Leborgne and Raymond Van Hove, with Victor Bourgeois following the project as a member of the Public Hygiene Committee. It first housed 160 children in separate pavilions recreating "family cells". The vocabulary is modernist: red and ochre brick, ribbon windows, portholes, flat roofs. An extension of 1947 to 1953 by Leborgne and Bourgeois raised the capacity to 260 children. The architectural ensemble has been listed since 4 April 2013.
