Marcel Leborgne
Marcel Leborgne, born in Gilly on 15 April 1898 and died in Charleroi on 22 January 1978, was an architect based in Charleroi. He graduated from the Saint-Luc Institute in 1922. His style, influenced by Le Corbusier, Mallet-Stevens and Italian rationalism, retains some Art Deco touches. He built the De Heug building in Charleroi (1933), listed in 1995 and restored from 2015 to 2020, and the Résidence Albert in Marcinelle (1937-1938). With Raymond Van Hove and Victor Bourgeois he designed the Cité de l'Enfance in Marcinelle (1938-1939), a former pavilion-style orphanage listed in 2013. His most spectacular work is the Villa Dirickz in Rhode-Saint-Genèse (around 1930-1931).
