Chapel and boarding school of the Catholic Teacher Training College (Katholieke Normaalschool), an Art Deco building erected for the Free Catholic Schools of the Deaneries of Antwerp to a 1927 design by the architect Frans Peeters; the design went through two versions, in September and December, the second obtaining a building permit in May 1928, and the new wing was inaugurated in 1928. Between the two versions, the chapel was much reduced to make room for a gymnasium and a dormitory; the wing extended a complex in the Minderbroedersstraat, and the building was renovated into offices and flats in 2006. According to the inventory, in the mid-1920s Peeters' buildings followed, in their forms and handling of materials, the idiosyncratic Art Deco of his friend Jef Huygh. On a reinforced-concrete frame, the building of four bays and four storeys under a slate pseudo-mansard has red-brick façades with bluestone, white stone and cement friezes; the street façade is articulated on its first two storeys by giant round-arched niches with keystones, outlined by bent drip mouldings on corbels with medallions. The south façade is dominated by a broad giant round arch that once contained the now-lost chapel porch, and the chapel interior has been dismantled; the building is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
