Art Deco school designed by the architects Henri Jacobs and his son Henri-Aimé Jacobs: the wing on Rue Omer Lepreux was built in 1933-1936, followed by the extension towards Avenue de Berchem-Sainte-Agathe by Henri-Aimé Jacobs, begun in 1939, interrupted by the war and completed in 1950. On Rue Omer Lepreux, the red-brick and bluestone façade features a large trapezoidal glazed bay lighting the staircase, flanked by engaged fluted columns, and piers clad in black and orange ceramic tiles. The concave entrance building on the avenue is articulated by columns and bears the inscription “ATHENEUM” beneath the Belgian coat of arms; the metal doors and window frames survive.
