Western Hainaut — from Estaimbourg to Leuze-en-Hainaut

From Estaimbourg to Leuze-en-Hainaut, this route brings together seven buildings built between 1926 and 1937. It starts at the villa La Jonquière, built in 1926 for the director of the neighbouring tannery and signed “Paul Hamesse Frères”, and the former boys’ secondary school in Pecq, rebuilt in 1931 in a regionalist spirit tinged with Art Deco. In Tournai, it passes Marcel Tock’s house on Chaussée de Lille (1934), two houses on Boulevard du Roi Albert, one built in 1931 by Eugène Rucq, the other dated 1933, and Georges Bariseau’s former provincial school of textiles and hosiery (1930), whose gymnasium bears a bas-relief by De Korte on the theme of sport. It ends in Leuze-en-Hainaut, at Georges Dubuisson’s town hall and magistrates’ court (1937), whose square tower marks the corner of the avenue and the square.
