Bruges
Bruges — Art Deco houses of the 1930s, from Lauwerstraat to Julius en Maurits Sabbestraat
In Bruges, this route brings together nine Art Deco houses built between 1931 and 1935. It starts at Ernest Callebout’s house in Lauwerstraat (1934), then reaches Jozef Priem’s house in Gouden-Boomstraat (1931) and, in Keizer Karelstraat, Firmin Koentges’s house (1933) and its 1932 neighbour, with a three-sided oriel. Via Leopold I-laan, with a house of 1934, and Leopold II-laan, where Hendrik Verbruggen signed a red-brick façade (1933), it reaches Julius en Maurits Sabbestraat: a house by Achille Goigne (1932), which includes a consulting room and a workshop, a house of 1935 and, finally, Goigne’s house of 1933, whose interior is entirely treated in geometric Art Deco forms and which has been a protected monument since 2004.
