Sacred Heart memorial erected in 1938 to a design by the Tielt artist Maurice Vander Meeren, which the inventory describes as a memorial in the Art Deco style. First set up south of the cloth hall tower on the Markt, it was moved on 6 June 1985, during the restoration of the belfry, to its present site against the west gable of no. 13 Ieperstraat, where the former inn "Den Blauwvoet" stood. Its plinth-like natural stone structure with stepped outlines carries, between two stylised praying angels, the arms of Tielt and the inscription "TIELT/ AAN HET/ H. HART/ 1938", beneath a bronze statue of the Sacred Heart. Built into the lower part is an older bronze high-relief plaque dated 1898, by the East Flemish sculptor Aloïs De Beule, commemorating the Peasants' War ("1798 VOOR OUTER EN HEERD 1898"). The memorial is recorded in the Flemish architectural heritage inventory.
